Sunday Start: Tap Into the Wisdom of Your Body
Good morning beauties,
I want to talk to you about slowing down. Do you ever do it? Do you ever consciously quiet your body and your mind to find stillness?
If not, you should.
Many people I work with will tell me they feel unsure about what to do. They feel stuck or unhappy, but don’t know how to change. Similarly, I hear from executives and busy mothers who tell me their lives feel frenetic and overwhelming and they’re tired of being so reactive and rundown, but they too don’t know what to do.
As I recently told a roomful of successful women, the body always knows what it needs, your soul knows what it desires. The tricky part is slowing down long enough to listen. Fortunately, there are simple ways to do this.
Give this a try:
Find a quiet place to sit. Set an alarm for 10 minutes. Place your feet on the ground, softly close your eyes and take three deep breaths in through your nose and out through a slightly open mouth. As you sit quietly with your eyes closed, focus on the movement of your breath. See it in your mind’s eye as it comes in through your nose, down into your lungs, back up and out through your mouth. Your mind may wander, and if it does, don’t chastise yourself, simply return your attention to your breath. Continue this practice until the alarm sounds.
As you do this short meditation notice what thoughts come to mind. Pay attention to any sensations in your body. Approach this process without expectation. This isn’t the time to be goal-oriented. It’s just a time to be.
Repeat this process daily each day this week. If you feel up to it, add a minute each time. It may seem difficult and that’s ok. Remember, this isn’t something most of us do regularly, but don’t let the difficulty keep you from trying. If you’re resistant to this, it’s even more important that you try.
Start creating these small moments of quieting your mind and body and you will start to create cracks through the noise through which you can tap into the wisdom of your body.
Have a beautiful day.
